Eligibility

The statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for the 2027 school year has been released.

The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government school. The timeline seeks to make the enrolment process simpler, clearer and fairer for families.

The timeline applies to children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2027. All government primary schools, including P-9 and P-12 schools, will follow the timeline.

If you are seeking to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) for the 2027 school year, you should read about enrolling in a school and contact a primary school directly.

To start primary school in 2027, your child will need to turn 5 years old by 30 April 2027. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2026 at Langwarrin Primary School from Monday 20th April 2026.

What you need to do:

1. Contact Langwarrin Primary School 9789 7346 to book a school tour (see above for tour dates).
2. Take a hardcopy Prep information package and have a read (please be sure to contact us if you have further questions)
3. Submit an enrolment form / application form for Prep by Friday 31 July 2026
4. You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026. If you receive an offer of placement, you should contact our school to accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026
5. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4 2026
6. Your child will start Prep from Monday 1 February 2027.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Placement Policy.

Transition
Our Prep Transition Program commences in Term 4 . Students will have the opportunity to tour our school including our farm and learn about the wonderful things they will learn during the 2027 school year. Dates for transition will be confirmed during Term 3.
